ABOUT ME

“My name is Kiki- short for Kidist. I am 18, Ethiopian, but born in Australia and currently based in Perth, WA. I have been modelling for just over a year now. It has led me to get out my shell and showcase my talents to the world.”

“I have always been interested in self-improvement, pursuit of art, and modelling. Being bold enough to attempt new things and not being afraid to speak up, has always been my passion. The lack of diversity in the industry is expressed by the fact that the majority of industry creatives are unprepared to handle a black model’s hair and makeup, not considering the general absence of inclusivity in brands on set, instead preferring to give the impression of inclusivity to the public.”

“Being someone who others can look up to as a role model as well as a model is one of my goals. My main objective in this programme is to compete against myself, improve myself, create a sisterhood that helps others do the same, and have the conviction that I am a winner even if I am not publicly recognised as such. As a finalist, I intend to use this chance to grow a platform where I preach our ideals and use my voice unapologetically. This is one lesson I hope to learn from and experience through ASOTY- Being a voice as well as a model.”
