A Model’s Bag

A models bag, also known as a model kit or model’s essentials, should contain important items that a model needs to have on hand for various modelling assignments.

Here are some items that are typically included in a model kit:

Composite Cards/Comp Cards:

These are professional modelling cards that showcase your portfolio and contact information. They are usually handed out to clients, agents and industry professionals. Your agency should get one ready for you or you can ask for one. Make sure you have it in print and a soft copy as well.

Portfolio:

Include a selection of your best photographs, both printed and in a digital format, to showcase your versatility and previous work. Ensure the images are high-quality and represent different styles and looks. Please do not include images that you think aren’t great just to make the portfolio bigger. A smaller but strong portfolio is definitely more powerful in most cases.

Basic Makeup Kit:

Carry a small makeup kit that includes foundation, concealer, powder, blush, neutral eyeshadows, mascara, eyeliner and lip products. It is essential to have products that match your skin tone and can be used for touch-ups on shoots or runway shows.

Sometimes, the makeup artists may not have the right product for you and this can save a lot of time. During some test and collaborative shoots, you might be asked to do your makeup yourself. This should however be discussed and agreed in advance.

Hair Essentials:

Include hairbrushes, combs, hair ties, bobby pins and a travel-sized hairspray. These items will help you maintain your hairstyle and make quick adjustments when needed.

Skin Care Products on a model’s bag:

Carry travel-sized skincare products such as cleanser, moisturiser and makeup remover wipes to keep your skin fresh and hydrated during long shoots or events. You should also carry a sunscreen with you when shooting outdoors.

Personal Hygiene Items:

Pack essentials like deodorant, breath mints and travel-sized toiletries for quick freshening up between shoots or during events.

Clothing and Accessories:

Have a selection of versatile clothing items in your kit such as basic black and white tops, underwear options, denim shorts, jeans, neutral-coloured bottoms, heels & comfortable shoes. Include accessories like hats, jewellery, scarves, sunglasses and belts that can easily enhance different looks.

Safety Pins and Sewing Kit:

These items can come in handy for quick clothing repairs or adjustments during shoots or runway shows.

Snacks and Water:

Carry non-perishable, healthy snacks such as granola bars or nuts along with a refillable water bottle to keep you energised and hydrated throughout the day.

Miscellaneous Items:

Include items like a notebook and pen for taking notes, a portable phone charger, a small mirror and any other personal items you may need.

Remember to periodically check and restock your model kit to ensure that everything is up-to-date and in good condition. Additionally, customise your kit based on your specific needs and preferences as a model, considering factors such as the type of modelling you do, the locations you work in and the specific requirements of your assignments.
