Testimonials

Australian Supermodel of the Year 2019 included some of the craziest experiences of my life to date. Over the week of the competition, we practiced communication and initiative by organising shoots with the accompanying photographers, ...received tutoring from ASOTY’s life-coach, and we had an amazing time creating friendships and industry networks. On the day of the Grand Final, there was so much anticipation in the air. Having a particularly petite stature – 5 feet flat, this was my first time walking a runway as a model. I was out of my comfort zone but excited by the challenge, and the positive feedback I received afterwards from the judges was very insightful. When I was announced as the 2019 Fitness Australian Supermodel of the Year, I was humbled but also proud to demonstrate that diversity and modelling can complement each other. I would 100% recommend ASOTY to any aspiring models and creatives, and I can’t wait to see what 2020 has in store.

My experience with ASOTY started at the end of 2018. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and sign up for ASOTY not knowing that this competition changed my life forever. Being selected as the top 20 in Australia I felt nothing but joy. ...I was beyond exciting to be flown to Bali to show the world what I had. Meeting new people from all around Australia made my trip the best I have ever been on. People who were genuine people who cared and honestly just making friendships of a life time. Finding out on grand finale day I was the teen winner quite possibly made me the happiest girl ever. I have never felt so much happiness in my life. To be crowned the winner meant it was a step up on the industry and all I wanted to was to make my family and friends proud and I did that by even making into the top 20. I’m so incredibly thankful for all that were involved and to all that have made me who I am today. ASOTY has gained my confidence so much and I couldn’t be more thankful. I’m very excited to see what ASOTY 2020 brings. I can’t wait to meet everybody and share bonds with people. I wish everybody luck and I can’t wait to see you all shine bright!

Being part of ASOTY was a real game changer for me. I never even imagined modeling was an option for someone like me so was very passive about it. I came to realise that if I wanted to see more size diversity in the industry I had to stand up ...and be part of that change. ASOTY gave me the opportunity, confidence and tools to do so much more with my career and actually make a difference. I’ve been able to spread the message of body diversity in media interviews, on podcasts and at special events. It’s also helped me become more proactive about getting and creating modeling opportunities and given me the self belief to deliver. Going to Bali for the finals was one of the best and most intense weeks of my life! I gained amazing friendships and mentors, got loads of professional images & content, had a once in a lifetime experiences, all in a summer paradise! Walking the final runway I actually discovered another side to myself and what I’m capable of. That week made me feel like an actual supermodel and was surrounded with the genuine support to embrace and own that. If you want to take your work seriously and reach new heights, all while hanging with awesome people in amazing locations, then ASOTY is for you!

Australian supermodel of the year was a life changing experience. I say this without doubt. My time spent in Bali with my ASOTY family showed me incredible opportunities to learn, network and gain incredible friends. I learnt skills as a model ...that I wouldn’t have developed nearly as quickly in a different environment. Learning from other developing models and more experienced ones was a unique and rewarding situation to be in. I not only learnt from models but from stylists, professionals in business, photographers, designers, makeup artists – all of the members of a multi-faceted fashion team. Not only learning from these incredible people but developing life long relationships with them that are dear to me. My time in Bali motivated me and prepared me for my career in the industry but also for my life external to modelling. I am currently studying medicine and surgery, and to enter this intense degree with the determination and resilience I learnt whilst modelling has given me a leg up regarding my approach and ability to thrive in my studies. I cannot wait to return to Bali in 2020. To be a part of other models’ ASOTY journey, is a special opportunity. It is as always an absolute privilege to work with my dear friend Kal. He is a professional, fair and incredibly kind international professional that the competition is lucky to be run by. I look forward to seeing the new developments in the competition and direction it is going in.

Grand Finale Night

The Grand Finale Night marks the culmination of months of preparation, meetings, workshops, learnings, mentoring and interactions between the finalists, the crew, judges, mentors, partners, creatives and many others who make this extensive program possible. It is also the night when the Diamond of the Year is announced along with the other Category Winners. The awards ceremony is designed around an International Fashion Show which provides the finalists a platform to showcase their runway skills. The Grand Finale Night is definitely an opportunity of a lifetime that none of you would want to miss.

Understanding Categories

We have divided the categories on the basis of how the fashion, advertising and modelling industry looks at hiring talent. This categorisation is to help you understand and pick a niche based on your interests and strengths, and to help you get noticed and established easily. There are 4 main categories. And 5 sub-categories. It is important that you chose one main category to compete. Some of you may also chose a sub-category that better represents you and helps you connect and network with like-minded people.

Please go through the FAQs if you have any doubts about how to register. Or you can get in touch with the A-Team through a DM on our Instagram for any clarifications on selection of a suitable category for you. After your application is submitted, we will review your application, and you will be able to move to a different category if required. So it is okay if you are unsure of a category at this stage.

TEENS

Teens can apply under any of the mainstream categories. Some of the rules, terms and conditions will vary for teens. If you are born after 4th April 2003, please apply as a Teen. Remember that the minimum age for entry is 14. You will need to be born before the 4th April 2007 to enter the 2021 Program.

Sub-Categories

Truly Inclusive

Asoty is committed to True Inclusiveness. We believe in inclusiveness that represents people of all colours, people of all sizes, people of all faiths & people with different or even conflicting views. Our aim is to create a community that understands, respects and enables a free and fair opportunity for everyone.

CURVE

If you find it difficult to fit into most of the designer stuff or ready-to-wear ...brands, you are not alone. The demand for Curve Models is growing but it is still a long way from becoming a mainstream category in boutiques and departmental stores. ASOTY was one of the first organisations to showcase and represent Curve models years before other agencies and brands took notice. And we continue to believe in curve beauty.

INDIGENOUS

‘We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are meeting. We pay ...our respects to their Elders, past and present, and emerging as well as the Indigenous Elders of other communities who may be here today.’ Equal and fair opportunities and representation for all is our dream. This category recognises and acknowledges the Traditional Owners and welcomes them into the ASOTY Community. We hope this will be a platform to promote and support indigenous talent.

MODEST

Everyone has their own perspective of what Modest fashion means. Halima Aden is what comes ...to our mind when we talk about Modest Modelling. We are looking for faces that can take our journey into True Inclusiveness further.

PETITE

A petite model generally measures between 158cms and 168 cms. Hips, waist and sizes are ...also smaller than an average size model. If you’ve felt too short to model and small or unseen, this is your platform.

STREET

If you’re not mainstream and live to the beat of your own drum then this ...category is for you. Those who express them selves externally through tattoos, hair colour, fashion etc and aim to be unique inside and out. If you’ve ever had an interest in modelling and been told to tone it down, this category is for you.

FITNESS

If you are you 100 percent committed to physical fitness and living a healthy lifestyle, ...then you might just have what it takes to become a fitness model. Sometimes referred to as sports modeling, Fitness Modelling is a highly competitive industry that takes hard work and dedication. The great thing about fitness modeling is that the physical requirements aren’t as strict as other modeling niches, such as fashion and runway. No minimum height requirements.

Please select a mainstream category first. The Sub-Categories are not competitive but make it easier for models to identify and connect with a like-minded group. Please read the FAQs or get in touch with us if you have any more questions.

We encourage everyone to pick a main category, and then chose a sub-category, if required. True Inclusiveness means that everyone should be able to work and compete in the same space. This is the only way to bring everyone together.

Truly Diverse

Good question!
Yes, we are open to 5 other nationalities now and the competition is still called the Australian Supermodel Of The Year. Think of the Australian Open.

The pandemic has put a stop on travel and we are aware that this may not seem to be the best time for including other countries. This initiative, however, is a part of our foundational belief and we are keen to take our journey into True Diversity forward.

Since most or all of the activities, except for the photoshoots and the Finale Runway, can be completed online, these times may after all be the most appropriate time to launch ASOTY in other countries. For details, please DM us or get in touch with the A-Team through an email.

Please take your time with your application as this information along with your social media pages will be used to decide on the approval of your application and your progress to the Candidate Level. You can apply in more than 1 category to increase your chances of getting selected for auditions. Remember that the maximum number of categories you can enter is only three. You will need to register for each category separately if you wish to do so. ( The basic information and photos provided at this stage will be used for your online profile on our website if you succeed to progress through to the Entrant level). Please read the Terms & Conditions carefully before making the payment of AU$100 and completing the registration process.

APPLICATION ASOTY 2020
APPROVAL OF APPLICATION

Step 2
Approval of Application

STAGE TWO: CANDIDATE LEVEL

The approval of your application depends on various factors including the information you have provided in your application about yourself, your goals in life, people who inspire you, things you would like to change in the world, the relevance of the category that you have applied in, etc....We also go through your social media pages to see what accounts you follow and what content you are posting. Points are given for everything and these will be added up at every stage as you progress through the competition. Once an application has been approved/ accepted through the registration stage, the selected candidates will be asked to make videos, and answer a few questions that are sent to them. We will then select and invite shortlisted Candidates to attend an audition through a Zoom video call. In all likelihood, auditions for ASOTY 2021 will be held online. We are still hoping we can make it to a few cities for auditions but cannot confirm any of our on-ground auditions at this stage. So please make yourself familiar with Zoom interviews once you receive the Zoom Audition Invite. Our crew will take you through a briefing session before the one-on-one interviews. Before attending your audition you will also receive a detailed document to help you prepare yourself for the audition. Applications that don’t make it past the approval process will still receive access to select online training modules and a $50 online gift voucher from one of our partners or sponsors.

Step 3
Auditions

STAGE THREE: ENTRANT LEVEL

All approved applicants ( Candidates ) will receive an invitation to attend online auditions along with the Zoom link after they have submitted their videos. These videos may include your runway skills, answers to some of our questions and a funny fact about you. ...Auditions are an opportunity for our team to get to know you better, understand your goals, your hobbies, your style & what you want to achieve through the ASOTY program. ( In case of on-ground auditions, the candidates may also take part in a quick photoshoot & showcase their runway abilities ). Successful candidates will gain entry into the Online Learning & Mentoring Program 2021 as Entrants. At this stage, Entrants will have to start finding individual sponsors who can support and help them in their ASOTY journey. Candidates that don’t make it past the audition process will still receive access to select ( Minimum of 4 ) online training modules. As mentioned above, we are unable to confirm and plan any on-ground activities at this stage and will, in all likelihood, hold all auditions online. If the situation changes, we would try to get to a few of the Capital cities for in-person auditions.

AUDITIONS
MENTORING SESSIONS

Step 4
Mentoring Sessions

All entrants will be guided and mentored by the ASOTY Team for about 10-12 weeks through various online sessions covering most of the topics required to get better in the modelling, fashion, creative and influencer industries. These mentoring sessions will also help the entrants make the best of the learning sessions by industry experts. ...Some of the mentors may also be available for one-on-one sessions. The entrants will be provided various opportunities to collaborate with and promote brands during this stage, and also be given various challenges ( mostly social content related like a dance or a dare or content creation ) in order to score towards getting into the finals.

Step 5
Learning Sessions

The Entrants will attend online learning sessions over the next few weeks. Industry professionals and experts will be joining us during these sessions which are aimed at bringing the best first-hand experiences and expertise that can help you understand the modelling, fashion and influencer industries better. ...And help you plan your career and next steps with confidence. The entrants will be able to interact with successful models, model scouts, modelling agencies, photographers, make-up artists, hair stylists, fashion stylists, life coaches, communication experts, social media gurus, self-love authors, designers and brand representatives. There will be a maximum of 12 sessions before we announce the list of 30 Finalists who will go into the next stage of the competition and take part in the Grand Finals. All entrants would have benefitted immensely by this time through some extremely valuable interactions, teachings and experiences. It will be time for us to say Good Bye to the ones who couldn’t make it to the finals. But all entrants will get the opportunity to win a year long membership to various online programs, collaborations with brands, continued education and support. Some of the Entrants will receive their formal modelling contracts at this stage.

LEARNING MODULES
SELECTION FOR GRAND FINALS

Step 6
Selection for Grand Finals

STAGE FOUR: FINALIST LEVEL

The list of final 30 is traditionally announced online through Insta Live. The 30 Finalists usually get to travel to Bali for the Grand finals and experience the soul and heart of the beautiful Balinese hospitality that we have so much cherished over the last decade. ...The selections for the finals are extremely competitive. Points are calculated right from the time you submit your application, meet us during the auditions, attend the learning and mentoring sessions, interact with the industry experts, etc. Points are also given for the way you communicate through your social media pages, and with other entrants. A lot of focus will be on understanding the future of modelling, inclusiveness, diversity and our responsibilities towards the communities we live in and the planet we call Earth. Sustainability is at the core of our vision and we would love to help you initiate the beautiful journey towards making this planet safer for us and future generations.

Step 7
Grand Finals

The chosen finalists will be informed and formally invited to the Grand Finals. If chosen, you will join 29 other selected finalists to take part in the Grand Final Event in Bali, Indonesia. During your time on the famous island, you may again interact & learn from experts in the business of fashion & modelling, ...shoot with our partner brands & photographers, participate in workshops, experience some once-in-a-lifetime kind of activities, visit some of the island’s iconic tourist destinations, experience the culture & above all, create memories & friendships that will last a lifetime. The finalists will also possibly compete in an International Fashion Show. Keeping the current situation in mind, we will be taking a call on holding the Grand Finals in Bali depending on the directives from respective governments, officials and partners. We would love to continue holding the Grand Finals in Bali if conditions allow, however, the Grand Finals may be held virtually or cancelled to ensure safety and well-being of everyone. Please keep following our Instagram and Facebook pages for regular updates. We will also keep all applicants and entrants informed of all decisions taken by the ASOTY Team with regard to the Grand Finals in Bali. We are ensuring that all learnings and mentoring is complete digitally so the Grand Finals might be possible but of a shorter duration.
