ASOTY SISTERHOOD

Join our journey towards a truly inclusive, truly diverse, truly meaningful, truly purposeful, truly sustainable and truly responsible world of modelling and fashion

KRISTINA SHEVCHENKO

Supermodel of the Year 2023

My name is Kristina, a 21-year-old psychology student from Russia, and modeling has played a significant role in shaping my life. Through modeling, I have learned to express myself, developed my social skills, and encountered countless fascinating individuals.

My primary goal is to use my modelling platform to promote women’s mental health. I firmly believe that mental health is crucial, and I want to inspire every girl to lead a happy and fulfilling life. I hope to motivate people to perform acts of kindness and greet each day with a smile.

I also hope to use my platform to inspire and uplift other women in the industry, as well as those outside of it. I am a strong believer in the power of sisterhood and supporting other women. I believe that when women support each other, we can achieve great things and create positive change in the world. I am dedicated to promoting this message and fostering a community of sisterhood and empowerment.

Participating in the Australian Supermodel of the Year program has been an incredible opportunity, and being named the Australian Supermodel of the Year 2023 is a true honor and responsibility that I am humbled to accept. I am determined to use this achievement to spread positivity, empower others, and make a meaningful impact in the world. As I embark on this journey, I hope to shine my light and illuminate the way for others.

My experience with ASOTY was incredibly empowering, exhilarating and educational.

It stands out as one of the most impactful programs I’ve ever participated in. I had the privilege of joining a remarkable group of girls who taught me a lot. The mentors who guided us were instrumental in helping us become the best versions of ourselves and I couldn’t have asked for a better team.

Right from the start, I realized that ASOTY was more than just a modeling competition. Even during the initial interview stages, it was evident that the program had deep values & integrity. While modelling and training were integral parts, there were additional components focused specifically on personal growth, mental health, self-care workshops and much more.

The emphasis on purpose and advocacy was consistently emphasized throughout the program. It became clear to us that we needed to have a purpose, a cause to advocate for. This awareness became immensely important because it provided a powerful platform to express our advocacy extending beyond our modelling & other chosen careers.

I felt a deep sense of belonging and sisterhood with everyone involved. I was truly able to be my authentic self and gained the confidence to express myself openly. ASOTY helped me realize my unrecognised potential showing me that I was capable of more than I ever thought. Through public speaking on social media and self-reflection, the program transformed me into a more confident individual, both personally and professionally

Witnessing the growth of all the girls, from the initial online sessions to our final night in Bali, was a beautiful experience.

My ASOTY experience was filled with love, support, happiness and self-growth challenges.

Being a part of ASOTY felt like having a second family thanks to the constant support from Kal, Carla and the other girls within the sisterhood. My whole experience was extremely professional, especially the initial stages of applying and the conduction of interviews.

From the very beginning I felt ASOTY to be more than just a pageant or a modelling competition. Each mentoring session, every Sunday, I learnt new techniques and tips from international models, advocates, mental health professionals and life coaches. Even though ASOTY was conducted online during 2021 due to Covid-19, I still felt the strength of sisterhood reiterated through the passionate Director, Kal, which inspired me to promote the message of acceptance, diversity, gratitude, kindness, love and support.

ASOTY further encouraged me to utilise my platform as a model to advocate and support those who don’t have as strong of a voice, such as the homeless. ASOTY has given me the ability to push myself out of my comfort zone, from public speaking via social media content creation, to self-reflection, resulting in much needed personal self-growth.

Conclusively, ASOTY was a unique, valuable and special experience in every aspect, which I will no doubt cherish forever.”

Understanding Categories

We have divided the categories on the basis of how the fashion, advertising and modelling industry looks at hiring talent. This categorisation is to help you understand and pick a niche based on your interests and strengths, and to help you get noticed and established easily. There are 4 main categories. And 5 sub-categories. It is important that you chose one main category to compete. Some of you may also chose a sub-category that better represents you and helps you connect and network with like-minded people.

Please go through the FAQs if you have any doubts about how to register. Or you can get in touch with the A-Team through a DM on our Instagram for any clarifications on selection of a suitable category for you. After your application is submitted, we will review your application, and you will be able to move to a different category if required. So it is okay if you are unsure of a category at this stage.

TEENS

Teens can apply under any of the mainstream categories. Some of the rules, terms and conditions will vary for teens. If you are born between the 1st of January 2005 and 31st of December 2008, you will be classified as a Teen. Remember that the minimum age for entry is 14. You will need to be born before 1st of January 2009 to enter the 2024 Program.

Sub-Categories

Truly Inclusive

Asoty is committed to True Inclusiveness. We believe in inclusiveness that represents people of all colours, people of all sizes, people of all faiths & people with different or even conflicting views. Our aim is to create a community that understands, respects and enables a free and fair opportunity for everyone.

CURVE ASOTY

CURVE

If you find it difficult to fit into most of the designer stuff or ready-to-wear brands, you are not alone. The demand for Curve Models is growing but it is still a long way from becoming a mainstream category in boutiques and departmental stores. ASOTY was one of the first organisations to showcase and represent Curve models years before other agencies and brands took notice. And we continue to believe in curve beauty.

INDIGINEOUS

‘I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are meeting. I pay my respects to their Elders, past and present, and the Aboriginal Elders of other communities who may be here today.’

Equal and fair opportunities for all is our dream. This category recognises and acknowledges the Traditional Owners. And welcomes them into the ASOTY Community.

MODEST ASOTY

MODEST

Everyone has their own perspective of what Modest fashion means. Halima Aden is what comes to our mind when we talk about Modest Modelling. We are looking for faces that can take our journey into True Inclusiveness further.

PETITE ASOTY

PETITE

A petite model generally measures between 158cms and 168 cms. Hips, waist and sizes too are smaller than an average size model.

STREET ASOTY

STREET

If you are a rebel creating your own rules, love tattoos, sneakers, skate boards, dancing and loud music, join the tribe.

Please select a mainstream category first. The Sub-Categories are not competitive but make it easier for models to identify and connect with a like-minded group. Please read the FAQs or get in touch with us if you have any more questions.

We encourage everyone to pick a main category, and then chose a sub-category, if required. True Inclusiveness means that everyone should be able to work and compete in the same space. This is the only way to bring everyone together.

Truly Diverse

Good question!
Yes, we are opening to  other nationalities soon and the competition will still be called the Australian Supermodel Of The Year. Think of the Australian Open.

The pandemic did put a stop and various restrictions/ requirements on travel and we are aware that this may not seem to be the best time for including other countries. This initiative is a part of our foundational belief and we are keen to take our journey into True Diversity forward.

Since most or all of the activities, except for the photoshoots and the Finale Runway, can be completed online, these times may after all be the most appropriate time to launch ASOTY in other countries. For details, please DM us or get in touch with the A-Team through an email.

How Does It Work?

The Australian Supermodel of the Year Program has been modified for the year 2024. And it is important that you read through all these steps before applying.
STAGE 1

Stage One of the Australian Supermodel of the Year program involves three essential steps. In the first step, participants complete the application process where they provide their basic information, recent photos, measurements and answer questions about their personality, passion and goals. This comprehensive application is then carefully reviewed also taking into account the candidate’s social media to determine their alignment for the program. The provided information undergoes a verification process to ensure its accuracy and authenticity. Once the verification is complete and the applicant is deemed suitable, it receives approval indicating that the candidate meets the initial criteria and can proceed further in the program.

STAGE 2

Stage Two of the Australian Supermodel of the Year program comprises three significant steps. Firstly, candidates who have been approved in Stage One are invited for the auditions to tell us more about themselves and express their views through Q&A videos. This allows the program’s team to gain deeper insights into the candidates, understanding their goals, style and aspirations. The candidates who successfully pass the Q&A video stage are then invited to participate in live Zoom Auditions with the program’s team. These calls enable direct interaction helping the team to assess candidates’ understanding of the program, communication skills, and overall potential based on our requirements. After the auditions, the program’s team carefully evaluates all the candidates and selects the finalists. The announcement of the chosen finalists marks the first significant milestone in their journey towards becoming the Australian Supermodel of the Year.

STAGE 3

Stage Three of the Australian Supermodel of the Year program encompasses six important steps. The finalists undergo an orientation process where they receive detailed information about the program’s expectations, rules and guidelines. This stage prepares them for the challenges and opportunities they will encounter throughout the program. The finalists participate in online classes conducted by industry professionals & experts covering various aspects of responsible modelling, creativity, content, self-love and the world of fashion. These classes enhance their skills and understanding of the industry. The finalists also engage in creative challenges that test their abilities and encourage them to push their boundaries. They collaborate with brands and industry professionals gaining practical experience, building their portfolio and expanding their network. Upon successful completion of the online program, the finalists receive a Certificate of Completion recognising their dedication, growth and accomplishments during their participation in the Australian Supermodel of the Year program.

BALI CONVERGENCE RETREAT

This is the most awaited part of the Australian Supermodel of the Year program. A handful of selected finalists after the second stage are offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in a Convergence Retreat in Bali, Indonesia. This exclusive retreat allows this exclusive group of finalists to immerse themselves in the beauty of Bali while engaging in workshops, photoshoots and cultural activities. It serves as a platform for them to create lasting memories and form strong friendships with fellow finalists.

Before embarking on the Bali retreat, the finalists undergo comprehensive preparation to ensure they are fully prepared for the upcoming stages of the competition and ready to shine on the international stage.

Throughout the competition, a voting system will be incorporated this season allowing the public and industry professionals to participate and vote for their favourite finalists. This will add an element of excitement and public involvement to the program increasing the anticipation and support for the finalists.

One of the highlight events of the program is the Runway Night where the finalists have the opportunity to showcase their modelling skills on the runway. This highly anticipated event allows them to demonstrate their talent, confidence and charisma in front of a live audience and industry experts.

The journey culminates in the Asoty Awards Night, a prestigious event where the winners of the Australian Supermodel of the Year are announced and celebrated. This grand occasion recognises and acknowledges the achievements of the finalists marking the end of a transformative journey in their life.
